Samsung Refrigerator Error Code FZ-FAN

FZ-FAN indicates that the Main PCB has detected a fault in the freezer fan motor circuit. This can be caused by a wiring issue, a disconnected harness, a feedback signal line contact error, or a failed motor. The refrigerator monitors the fan continuously, and when the signal falls outside expected parameters, this code is triggered. You may also notice the freezer or refrigerator compartment is not maintaining proper temperature.

Continuing to use the refrigerator with an active FZ-FAN error is not recommended for extended periods. Without a properly functioning freezer fan, cold air cannot circulate correctly, which means both the freezer and refrigerator compartments may warm up and food safety can be compromised. Prolonged operation in this state can also put added stress on the compressor.

A power reset may temporarily clear the FZ-FAN code, but it will return if the underlying fault is not corrected. Resetting the unit by unplugging it for a few minutes does not repair a broken wire, a failed motor, or an ice obstruction. The code should be treated as an indicator of a real mechanical or electrical problem that requires proper diagnosis and repair before the error stays cleared.

Some causes of the FZ-FAN error are DIY-friendly. Clearing ice buildup from the fan blade and reconnecting a loose wire harness at connector CN76 do not require special tools. However, testing voltage at CN76 requires a multimeter, and replacing the fan motor requires basic disassembly of the freezer interior panel. If you are not comfortable with electrical testing or appliance disassembly, a qualified technician should perform the repair.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. If the fix involves simply reconnecting a harness or defrosting the fan area, costs are minimal. A replacement freezer fan motor typically runs between $30 and $80 for the part alone.
