Samsung Refrigerator Error Code FZ-Sensor

The FZ-Sensor code means the freezer compartment temperature sensor has a circuit fault. The control board is receiving a temperature reading above 149°F or below -58°F, which falls outside any real operating condition and indicates a sensor, connector, or wiring problem. The sensor cannot be trusted to regulate freezer temperature until the fault is resolved.

It is not advisable to rely on the refrigerator for food storage while this error is active. With the freezer sensor faulty, the control board cannot accurately regulate the freezer temperature, which could allow food to thaw or the compressor to run incorrectly. Address the fault as soon as possible to avoid food spoilage or further component wear.

Repair costs vary depending on the cause. If only a connector needs to be reseated or a sensor repositioned, a service call fee of roughly $75 to $150 may be the only expense. If the thermistor sensor needs replacement, parts typically range from $15 to $50, with total repair costs including labor falling between $100 and $250. A damaged wiring harness can increase costs depending on the extent of the damage.

Some causes, such as a disconnected sensor plug or a sensor that has slipped out of its mount, can be corrected without special tools by a confident DIYer. However, properly diagnosing the fault requires a multimeter to measure voltage at CN30 Pin 4 to CN76 Pin 1 and confirm whether the issue is the connector, wiring, or sensor itself. Replacing the thermistor sensor is a moderately straightforward repair if you are comfortable working with appliance wiring.

A power reset may temporarily clear the error code from the display, but the fault will return if the underlying sensor, connector, or wiring issue has not been fixed. The control board will re-detect the out-of-range voltage signal and re-trigger the code shortly after the refrigerator powers back up. A reset alone is not a repair.
