Wolf Range Error Code 02-00

Error code 02-00 indicates a meat probe short has been detected on the left or right probe circuit. The control board is reading an abnormally low resistance from the probe or its wiring, which signals a short circuit condition. This error prevents probe-assisted cooking from operating to avoid inaccurate food temperature readings. The fault can be in the probe itself, the cable, the probe jack, or the wiring harness.

General oven functions such as bake and broil are typically not affected by a meat probe error, so standard cooking is generally safe to continue. However, you should not rely on probe-guided cooking modes while this error is active, as the temperature readings will not be accurate. Resolve the probe fault before using any cooking mode that depends on the meat probe for temperature control.

Power cycling the range by turning off the circuit breaker for a few minutes may temporarily clear the error display, but the code will return if the underlying fault in the probe or wiring has not been corrected. A reset does not repair damaged hardware. The error will continue to appear each time the probe circuit is activated until the defective component is repaired or replaced.

Some causes of this error are DIY-friendly. You can inspect the probe cable for visible damage, clean the probe jack inside the oven cavity, and test the probe with a multimeter. If the probe itself has failed or the internal wiring harness is damaged, replacing those components may require more technical skill and access to the range's interior.

If the meat probe itself is the cause, replacement probes typically cost in the range of $30 to $80 for the part. If the probe jack or wiring harness requires replacement, parts and labor combined can range from $150 to $400 or more depending on the extent of the repair and your location. Control board replacement, if needed, is the most expensive scenario and can exceed $400 to $700 in total repair cost.
