You should not run the dishwasher while the 6-1 code is active. The machine has stopped because it cannot confirm adequate water in the tub, and running a wash cycle without sufficient water can damage the pump and heating element. If there is an active water leak causing the code, continued use could also result in water damage to the floor or cabinetry beneath the unit.

A clogged internal filter does not directly cause a 6-1 error. Code 6-1 is specifically tied to the water supply side, the fill valve, the drain check valve, and the overfill switch. The filter affects wash performance and drainage, but the 6-1 code points to a problem with water entering the tub, not water being circulated or drained during the wash.

If the screen is clear and no leaks are present, check the drain hose check valve for proper sealing, then test the fill valve for correct operation and continuity. If the fill valve has no continuity or the check valve is visibly damaged, replace the faulty part.
