E36 signals a communication error between the main touch control board and the filter board in the 3-cook-zone induction module, which controls the left-side cooking zones. The cooktop cannot relay power commands to those burners, so it shuts them down as a safety measure. The fault points to the internal communication cable, the filter circuit board, or the dual generator circuit board in that module.

The left-side cooking zones will not operate while E36 is active, so there is no immediate risk of an uncontrolled heating event on those burners. However, you should not attempt to bypass the fault or continue cooking with the assumption that it may resolve on its own. Have a qualified technician inspect the unit before relying on it for regular use.

Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed and local labor rates. A communication cable replacement or connector repair tends to be the least expensive option, while filter board or generator board replacements will cost more due to parts pricing. A typical repair involving one of these boards plus labor can range from roughly $150 to $450 or more, depending on part availability and technician rates in your area.

Cycling power to the cooktop may temporarily clear the display, but E36 will return if the underlying communication fault is still present. Start by checking all communication cables between the user interface and both induction generator modules, ensuring every connector is fully seated and undamaged. If the cables are intact, the next step is replacing the filter circuit board in the 3-zone induction module. If the error persists after that replacement, the dual generator circuit board in the same module is the likely culprit and should be replaced as well.
