E51 indicates a break or open-circuit condition in the temperature sensor for the left front induction element. The generator circuit board monitors a thermistor in the element that should read approximately 1000 ohms at room temperature. When that signal is lost, the board disables the left front burner and displays E51 as a safety response.

A power reset, such as turning off the circuit breaker for 30 seconds, may temporarily clear the display, but E51 will return as soon as the cooktop attempts to use the left front element if the underlying fault is still present. The error indicates a hardware fault in the sensor circuit that must be physically corrected before the burner will operate normally.

Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed. If the connector simply needs reseating, there may be no parts cost at all, though a service call typically runs between $75 and $150. Replacing the left front element assembly generally costs between $150 and $400 in parts plus labor.
