The SF error code on an Electrolux oven stands for Sabbath mode failure. This condition is specifically triggered when a power outage interrupts the oven while Sabbath mode is active. Sabbath mode is a special operating state that allows observant users to keep the oven at a set temperature continuously over the Sabbath or religious holidays, bypassing the automatic shut-off and display features that would normally interrupt continuous operation. When utility power is lost and then restored during this mode, the control system detects that the Sabbath mode session was broken and displays SF across all control panels to alert the user that the mode has failed and the oven cannot resume operation automatically.

The error is a logical or state-based failure rather than a hardware component failure. The oven's electronic control board tracks whether Sabbath mode is engaged, and when a power interruption clears the board's volatile memory mid-session, the control logic recognizes an inconsistency between the expected mode state and the current power-restored state. As a result, the board locks out normal oven operation and displays SF on every panel until the mode is explicitly cancelled by the user.

Because SF is a mode-state error rather than a sensor or component fault, it does not indicate physical damage to the oven. However, the oven will remain inoperable in this state until Sabbath mode is cancelled. The cancellation procedure requires pressing the lo minus and hi plus buttons simultaneously and holding them for 3 seconds. Once cancelled, the oven should return to normal standby operation. If the error persists after cancellation, the electronic control board may require further inspection.
