The triac is a semiconductor switching device located on the main control board that regulates power delivery to the recirculation pump motor. When the board's internal sensing circuitry detects an anomaly in how the triac is conducting or switching, it flags this error and halts the wash cycle to prevent potential damage to the pump or wiring harness. This code appears on select Electrolux washer models that include a recirculation system, which routes water back through the drum during the wash phase.

The root cause of error 84 is almost always internal to the main control board itself. The triac sensing circuit monitors the triac's gate and output signals, and if the component has failed, shorted, or degraded, the board's self-diagnostic logic will generate this fault. Because the sensing failure is embedded within the board's circuitry rather than in an external wiring run or standalone component, replacing the main control board is the primary corrective action.
