The U1 error code means the dryer failed to prime its internal water system within approximately 3 minutes of starting a cycle. Fisher & Paykel condenser dryers use water to help condense moisture removed from laundry, and this code indicates that water flow was not established in time. The error stops the cycle to prevent the machine from running without proper water supply. Checking the water tap and inlet hose is the recommended first step.

A reset may clear the U1 code temporarily, but the error will return at the next cycle if the underlying water supply issue has not been resolved. Address the cause first, such as opening the tap or clearing a blocked filter, and then restart the machine. If the fault persists after correcting supply issues, an internal component may be at fault.

If the fix is simply opening a tap or straightening a hose, there is no cost involved. If the inlet filter needs cleaning, that is also a no-cost repair. Replacement of a faulty water inlet valve, including parts and labour, typically ranges from around $100 to $250 depending on your location and the technician's rates. Diagnosing internal control or sensor faults may add to that cost.

Start by confirming the water supply tap is fully open and that the inlet hose is free of kinks or bends. Next, check the inlet filter screen at the hose connection point and rinse it clean if it appears blocked. If the supply side appears normal, the inlet valve itself may need testing or replacement, which typically requires a technician.

You should not continue running the dryer while the U1 error is active. The machine halts the cycle because it cannot operate its condensing system without water, and forcing use without resolving the fault could affect performance and potentially cause component damage over time. Resolve the water supply issue before resuming use.
