Error code 16 is an airflow restriction warning. It means the dryer's control system has detected that airflow through the machine has dropped below an acceptable level. The most common causes are a full lint bucket or a clogged lint filter. Clearing those components is the recommended first step.

A reset may temporarily clear the code, but it will return if the underlying airflow restriction is not resolved. You need to physically remove the source of the blockage before the warning will stay off. Always address the lint bucket, filter, and ductwork before attempting a reset.

In many cases, code 16 can be resolved at no cost simply by cleaning the lint bucket, filter, and exhaust duct, all of which are user-serviceable tasks. If the blockage is internal and requires a technician to disassemble the cabinet, expect service call and labor costs in the range of $80 to $200 depending on your location and the extent of the cleaning required. Replacement parts are rarely needed for this specific code.

Start by emptying the lint bucket and cleaning the lint filter screen completely. If the code returns after that, inspect the exhaust duct for kinks, blockages, or lint buildup along its full length. On condenser models, check and clean the condenser unit as well. If the restriction is inside the dryer housing, internal cleaning by a technician may be required.

Continuing to run the dryer with a confirmed airflow restriction is not advisable. Restricted airflow reduces drying efficiency and can cause heat to build up inside the appliance. Resolving the blockage before further use is the safest course of action.
