Error code 11 on a Fisher & Paykel dryer indicates an open circuit in the lid lock system. The lid lock is a safety component that prevents the dryer drum from operating when the door or lid is not securely closed and latched. An open circuit means the control board is sending power to the lid lock coil but receiving no return signal, indicating a break in the electrical path somewhere between the board and the lock assembly.

The lid lock system consists of a solenoid coil, a mechanical locking actuator, and a wiring harness that connects these components to the sensor module. When the circuit is open, the fault can originate at the harness connectors, along the wiring itself due to a broken or pinched conductor, or within the coil winding of the lock assembly. A coil failure means the wire inside the solenoid has broken, preventing current from flowing through and completing the circuit.

Diagnosing this fault begins with checking continuity through the lid lock harness and coil using a multimeter. If continuity is confirmed throughout the harness and coil, the fault lies in the sensor module itself, which processes the lid lock signal and communicates status to the main control board. A failed sensor module may misread or fail to detect a properly functioning lock circuit, triggering the error even when the physical components are intact.
