INV-15 means the inverter control board has detected that the AC input voltage is too low for safe compressor operation. The inverter drives the variable-speed compressor motor, and it requires adequate voltage to function correctly. When this fault is active, the compressor may not run, causing the refrigerator to lose cooling. Diagnosing this code starts with checking the mains outlet voltage and the H-Rail voltage at the inverter board.

Running the refrigerator with an active INV-15 fault is not advisable. Low voltage conditions can cause the compressor and inverter components to work outside their design limits, potentially leading to overheating or accelerated component wear. More immediately, the compressor may not run consistently, meaning food safety could be compromised. It is best to resolve the voltage issue before continuing normal use.

A power reset may temporarily clear the INV-15 code, but if the underlying voltage issue is not resolved, the fault will return once the inverter detects low voltage again. Resetting the appliance without addressing the cause is not a lasting solution. The code should be treated as a diagnostic signal that a real electrical problem needs to be identified and corrected.

Start by measuring the voltage at the wall outlet using a multimeter to confirm the supply is within the normal range. If the outlet voltage is adequate, the next step is to check the H-Rail voltage at the inverter board input to determine whether the low-voltage condition exists inside the appliance. Depending on the findings, the fix could be as simple as moving the refrigerator to a dedicated circuit, or it may require replacing a damaged power cord, corroded wiring connector, or an internal control board.

Repair costs vary widely depending on the root cause. If the problem is simply an inadequate home circuit or a faulty outlet, costs could be minimal, covering only an electrician's service call in the range of $80 to $200.
