Code 317 on a GE washer means the compressor motor inverter board has reported a fault. The inverter board controls power delivery to the compressor motor, and this code indicates the board has detected a problem it cannot recover from on its own. Diagnosis starts with checking the line voltage at connector CN8, pin 4 to pin 1, which should read between 102 and 132 VAC.

It is not recommended to continue using the washer while code 317 is active. The inverter board fault means the compressor motor is not being controlled properly, and running the machine in this state could cause additional damage to the inverter board, the motor, or related components. Discontinue use until the fault is diagnosed and repaired.
