This error means the main control board attempted to communicate with the inverter board three times in a row and received no response each time. The inverter board controls the wash motor's speed and direction, so this communication link is critical for safe operation. The machine locks out to prevent damage until the fault is resolved. The root cause is most often a wiring or connector issue between the two boards.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code, but if the underlying cause is still present, the fault will return, typically within the same or the next wash cycle. The error is triggered after three consecutive failed communication attempts, so any intermittent wiring issue will cause it to reappear. A reset is worth trying as a first step, but do not rely on it as a fix without also inspecting the wiring and boards.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there is no parts cost and only your time involved. Inverter board replacement typically runs in the range of $100 to $250 for the part, with additional labor costs if a technician performs the work. Main control board replacement can run from $150 to $350 or more depending on the model. Getting a firm diagnosis before ordering parts helps avoid replacing the wrong component.

Checking and reseating the wiring harness between the main board and inverter board is a reasonable DIY first step that requires no special tools and no parts. If the connectors look secure and clean, diagnosing or replacing the inverter board or main board becomes more complex and typically requires comfort working around electronic components. If you are not comfortable working inside the machine's cabinet, a technician is the safer option.

The machine will generally not operate normally while this fault is active, as the control system locks out motor operation when communication between the boards fails. Attempting to force operation is not recommended because the motor cannot be properly controlled without the inverter board communicating correctly. The machine should be left unplugged until the fault is diagnosed and repaired.
