Maytag Washer Error Code F/02

F/02 means the washer detected a long drain condition, where the tub took more than eight minutes to drain. When this happens, the control board shuts off the water valves and stops the cycle. The code points to a restriction or failure in the drain system that is preventing the pump from evacuating water at a normal rate.

You should not continue running wash cycles while the F/02 code is active. The control board has already shut off the water valves, and the tub may still contain standing water that has not fully drained. Running the machine in this state can stress the pump motor and potentially lead to water remaining in the drum, which creates odor and mold issues over time.

If the fix is simply clearing a kinked hose or cleaning a clogged filter, the repair costs nothing beyond your time. If the drain pump motor needs to be replaced, parts typically run in the range of $25 to $80 depending on the model, with professional labor adding another $100 to $200 in most markets. Diagnosing and resolving a blockage in the pump impeller is usually on the lower end of that cost range if a technician is involved.

Start by checking the drain hose for kinks or blockages and confirm it is routed and installed correctly. Next, clean the pump filter if your model has an accessible one, as built-up lint and debris are a common culprit. If the hose and filter are clear, inspect the pump impeller for trapped objects and test the pump motor for proper function. Replacing a faulty pump motor will resolve the code if mechanical blockages are not the cause.

A reset may clear the code temporarily and allow a cycle to start, but if the underlying drain restriction or pump problem is not corrected, the code will return within the same or next cycle once the drain time limit is exceeded again.
