FCE1 means the washer's control board has no model or serial number information saved in its memory. The control requires this data to properly identify the machine and operate with the correct parameters. This code most often appears after a control board has been replaced without being programmed. Accessing the Help Mode Sub Menu in the washer's service programming interface is the first step to diagnose and resolve it.

A standard power cycle or reset will not permanently clear FCE1 because the error is caused by missing data in the control board's memory, not a temporary fault. The code will return after any reset until the model and serial number are properly programmed into the control. In fact, certain reset procedures may worsen the situation by clearing any partial data that was present.

If the fix only requires re-programming the control board through the service menu, the cost is primarily labor, typically in the range of $75 to $150 depending on the technician and region. If the control board itself has failed and cannot retain programmed data, a replacement board can add $150 to $350 or more in parts costs.
