The ob code stands for Out of Balance. It means the motor controller detected an imbalance in the drum load that it could not correct on its own, so the machine stopped the spin cycle to prevent damage. This is most often caused by clothing that has shifted or bunched to one side of the basket. Redistributing the load and restarting the cycle typically resolves it.

Pressing Pause/Off clears the ob code from the display, but the error will return if the underlying imbalance is not corrected before restarting. You need to open the lid at least once to allow the machine to detect a new load position, redistribute the laundry, and then restart. Simply resetting without rearranging the clothes will typically result in the same error during the next spin attempt.

If the issue is simply an uneven load or leveling problem, there is no parts cost involved. If the ob error is caused by worn suspension rods, replacement rods typically cost between $15 and $60 for parts, plus labor if a technician is needed. A tub bearing replacement is more involved and can range from $100 to $300 or more depending on parts and labor rates in your area.

Start by pressing Pause/Off to clear the display, then open the lid and manually redistribute the laundry so weight is spread evenly around the drum. Close the lid and restart the cycle. If the error returns repeatedly, check that the machine is level, inspect the suspension rods for wear, and avoid washing single heavy items without adding a few lighter items to balance the load.

The washer is designed to stop and display the ob code specifically to prevent unsafe operation. Running the machine while it is severely out of balance can cause excessive vibration, physical movement of the unit, and accelerated wear on internal components such as bearings and suspension rods. Address the imbalance before running additional cycles to avoid causing secondary damage.
