The Sud code means the washer has detected a suds lock condition caused by too much foam inside the drum. The Motor Control Unit monitors current draw on the drive motor, and when excessive suds make the drum harder to turn, the MCU stops the cycle and displays Sud. This protects the motor from overload. The issue is most often caused by too much detergent or a non-HE detergent being used.

The washer is designed to pause and protect itself when the Sud code triggers, so running additional cycles immediately after the code appears is generally safe as long as you follow the recommended Rinse and Spin step first. Repeatedly forcing the washer to operate through heavy suds could stress the drive motor over time. Addressing the detergent issue before the next wash is the best way to avoid any long-term wear on the motor components.

In most cases, the Sud code requires no parts or repair costs at all since the fix involves adjusting detergent type and quantity. If the code is caused by a faulty drive motor or a malfunctioning Motor Control Unit, repair costs can range from roughly $150 to $400 or more depending on the specific component and labor rates in your area.
