E160 on a Samsung mini DVM Plus Series heat pump means the system has blocked the compressor from starting because the outdoor temperature is outside the permitted operating range. Cooling operation is prohibited below -5°C and heating operation is prohibited above 30°C. The control system reads the outdoor inlet air temperature sensor to enforce these limits. The lockout is a protective function, not necessarily a component failure.

The E160 lockout is specifically designed to protect the compressor from operating in harmful conditions, so the system will not allow the compressor to run while the error is active. There is no immediate safety risk to the building or occupants. Simply wait for conditions to return to the acceptable range or have the sensor circuit inspected if you suspect a false reading.

A manual reset may temporarily clear the error display, but E160 will return immediately if the underlying condition is still present, whether that is an out-of-range outdoor temperature or a malfunctioning sensor.
