Samsung Refrigerator Error Code 15E

The 15E code indicates an ice room temperature sensor error. The refrigerator's control board has detected a temperature reading from the ice compartment sensor that is above 149°F (65°C) or below -58°F (-50°C), which falls outside the valid operating range. This typically means the sensor is disconnected, has a wiring fault, or has failed internally rather than indicating an actual extreme temperature in the ice room.

The refrigerator's main cooling system will generally continue operating during a 15E fault, so food storage is usually not immediately at risk. However, the ice maker may stop producing ice or behave erratically because the control board relies on the ice room sensor to manage the ice making cycle. It is best to address the fault promptly to avoid further issues.

A reset may temporarily clear the 15E code from the display, but the error will return if the underlying fault is still present. The control board continuously monitors the ice room sensor voltage, so as soon as it detects a reading outside the 1.0V to 4.5V window, the code will reappear. A reset is useful for confirming the fault is active and repeatable, but it is not a fix for the root cause.

Some causes of the 15E error are DIY-friendly. Start by unplugging the refrigerator, locating the ice room sensor and its connector, and checking that the connector is fully seated and free of corrosion. If you have a multimeter, you can also check the voltage at the main PCB connector CN78 between pins 10 and 1 with power applied; a reading between 1.0V and 4.5V indicates the circuit is intact. Sensor replacement is a moderately straightforward repair, but PCB replacement requires more comfort with electronics.

If only the ice room temperature sensor needs to be replaced, parts typically cost in the range of $15 to $50 depending on the specific model. A professional repair visit, including labor, generally runs between $100 and $250. If the main PCB is at fault, parts alone can range from $75 to $200 or more, which makes that repair significantly more expensive.
