The 1E code on a Samsung refrigerator signals a freezer temperature sensor (FZ-Sensor) error. The main control board has detected a temperature reading from the freezer sensor that is either above 149°F (65°C) or below -58°F (-50°C), which is outside the possible valid range. This indicates a sensor housing separation, connector contact problem, wiring disconnection, or a short circuit in the sensor circuit. The refrigerator cannot reliably manage freezer temperature until the fault is corrected.

A reset may temporarily clear the 1E code from the display, but it will return if the underlying sensor circuit fault is not repaired. The control board will re-detect the out-of-range temperature signal as soon as it resumes normal monitoring. A reset is useful for confirming whether the fault is intermittent, but it is not a repair solution.

A 1E error means the refrigerator cannot accurately monitor freezer temperature, so it may not maintain safe freezer conditions. Food safety could be compromised if the freezer is not cooling properly. It is best to check the freezer temperature with a separate thermometer and limit the time the error remains unresolved, especially if the freezer contains perishable items.
