Samsung Refrigerator Error Code 25E

The 25E code indicates a fresh food compartment defrost heater fault. It can be triggered by a shorted or open heater element, a failed thermal fuse, a tripped bimetal cutout, a wiring disconnection, or a defrost cycle that ran for more than 80 minutes without completing. The main PCB monitors the defrost heater circuit through the CN70 connector and sets this code when it detects an electrical or timing problem.

A power reset may temporarily clear the code from the display, but it will not fix the underlying electrical or mechanical fault. If the heater, thermal fuse, or wiring has failed, the error will return once the refrigerator attempts its next defrost cycle. A reset is only useful as a first step to see whether the fault is intermittent.

Repair costs vary depending on which component has failed. A defrost heater element typically costs between $30 and $80 for the part, while a thermal fuse or bimetal thermostat is usually between $10 and $40. If professional labor is required, total repair costs including diagnosis and installation commonly range from $150 to $350. A main PCB replacement, if that turns out to be the cause, will cost considerably more.

A technician or experienced DIYer can diagnose this fault by disconnecting the main PCB CN70 connector and measuring resistance between the White and Gray wires. A reading of 0 ohms points to a shorted heater and a reading of infinite ohms points to an open heater, failed thermal fuse, or broken bimetal. Replacing individual components like the defrost heater, thermal fuse, or bimetal is a manageable repair if you are comfortable working inside the refrigerator liner and handling electrical components safely.

The 25E fault is not an immediate safety emergency, but it should be addressed promptly. Without a functioning defrost cycle in the fresh food section, frost will accumulate on the evaporator coils and eventually reduce or block airflow, causing the fresh food compartment to warm up and food to spoil. Continued operation with a shorted heater could also place added stress on the PCB.
