The 40E code indicates a Sparkling Sensor error in the sparkling water system. It is triggered by a sensor housing separation, connector contact failure, wiring disconnection, short circuit, or a temperature reading outside the valid range of -58°F to 149°F (-50°C to 65°C). The diagnostic process starts with measuring voltage at the ASSY KIT PCB connector CN32, between pins 1 and 3, which should read between 1.0V and 4.5V.

The 40E error is specific to the sparkling water sensor and does not directly indicate a failure of the main refrigerator or freezer cooling system. Your food should remain safe as long as the refrigerator is maintaining its normal temperatures. However, the sparkling water dispenser feature may not function correctly while this fault is active.

A power reset may temporarily clear the 40E error from the display, but if the underlying fault is still present, the code will return. A reset does not fix a failed sensor, damaged wiring, or a separated sensor housing. The error will stay resolved only after the root electrical or physical cause is identified and corrected.

Some causes of the 40E error are DIY-friendly. Start by checking that the sensor wiring harness connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion or damage. If the connector is loose, reseating it may clear the fault. However, diagnosing the precise voltage at CN32 requires a multimeter, and replacing a failed sensor or damaged wiring harness may require ordering parts and moderate disassembly of the refrigerator.

If the fix is as simple as reseating a loose connector, there is no parts cost involved.
