The 66E code on a Samsung refrigerator indicates a door handle heater open circuit error. The control board has detected that the electrical circuit supplying the door handle heater is broken or not completing. This is confirmed by reading infinite resistance between pins CN51 #2 and CN51 #3 on the Main PCB connector. The fault must be resolved by locating and repairing the break in the circuit or replacing the defective component.

The 66E code does not indicate a critical safety hazard to the refrigerator's cooling function. However, a non-functional door handle heater can allow moisture to accumulate on the handle in humid conditions. It is still advisable to address the fault promptly to prevent any secondary moisture-related damage to surrounding components.

A reset may temporarily clear the 66E code from the display, but it will return as soon as the control board re-checks the door handle heater circuit and detects the open circuit again. A power cycle does not repair a broken wire or failed heater element. The underlying fault must be diagnosed and corrected before the error will stay cleared.

Start by disconnecting the Main PCB CN51 connector and testing continuity between pins #2 and #3. An infinite ohm reading means the circuit is open, so you will need to trace the wire harness from the PCB to the door handle for damage, disconnections, or corrosion. If the wiring is intact, the door handle heater element itself has likely failed and will need to be replaced.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. If the issue is simply a disconnected connector, there may be no parts cost at all. Replacing a damaged wire harness segment typically costs between $20 and $80 in parts, while a full door handle heater assembly replacement can range from $30 to $150 depending on the model.
