Samsung Washer Error Code 4E/4E2

The 4E or 4E2 code means the washer is not receiving sufficient water supply to complete a fill cycle. The control board detected that water did not reach the required level within the expected time. This is most often caused by a closed water tap, a kinked hose, a blocked inlet screen, or a flood safety device cutting off flow. On washers with Auto Temperature Control, a disconnected hot water hose can also trigger a 4E2 code.

The washer will not operate a cycle while the 4E error is active, so there is no immediate safety risk from the code itself. However, you should resolve the water supply issue before attempting to run a load. Repeatedly trying to force a cycle without addressing the root cause can stress the inlet valve components over time.

In many cases there is no repair cost at all, since the cause is often a closed tap, a kinked hose, or a dirty inlet screen that can be fixed without any parts. If the water inlet valve itself has failed and needs replacement, parts typically range from $20 to $60 and a technician service call can add $75 to $150 or more depending on your location. Diagnosing and ruling out the free fixes first is always worth doing before scheduling a service visit.

Start by confirming both the hot and cold water taps behind the washer are fully open. Then inspect the inlet hoses for kinks or tight bends, and check the small mesh screens inside the hose connections at the back of the machine for debris. If you have a flood safety device installed on the hose, remove it and connect the hose directly to the washer. Also verify that the hot water supply hose is connected if your model uses Auto Temperature Control.

Resetting the washer by powering it off and back on may temporarily clear the display, but the code will return as soon as the machine attempts to fill and encounters the same supply problem. A reset does not fix the underlying cause. You need to correct the water supply issue first, then start a new cycle to confirm the error is resolved.
