The 8E2 code on a Samsung front-load washer indicates a rear MEMS sensor fault. The MEMS sensor monitors tub position during operation, and this error appears when the tub location data from that sensor falls outside the normal range for at least two seconds. The washer stops the cycle until the fault is diagnosed and corrected.

A power reset may temporarily clear the 8E2 code if it was triggered by a momentary signal interruption, but the error will return if the underlying fault is still present. Powering the washer off at the wall for a few minutes and restarting is worth trying, but persistent 8E2 codes require proper diagnosis of the MEMS sensor, wiring, and Sub PBA.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If the issue is simply a loose wire harness connection, there may be no parts cost involved, though a service call fee of roughly $75 to $150 may apply. Replacing the MEMS sensor typically costs between $30 and $80 for the part, while a Sub PBA replacement can range from $80 to $200 or more depending on the model, plus labor if a technician is used.

Some causes of the 8E2 error are accessible to a knowledgeable DIYer. Checking and reseating the wire harness connections at the MEMS sensor and Sub PBA is a reasonable first step that requires no special tools. However, verifying the DC 5V input voltage at the Sub PBA requires a multimeter and comfort working near electrical components. Replacing the MEMS sensor or Sub PBA typically requires partial disassembly of the washer and may be better handled by a technician.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer with an active 8E2 fault. The MEMS sensor provides tub location data that the control system uses to monitor operation. Running cycles without reliable tub position data could potentially allow the washer to operate outside safe parameters. Address the fault before resuming normal use.
