Samsung Washer Error Code E4

The E4 code on a Samsung washer means the machine detected an unbalanced load during the spin cycle. The drum sensors registered uneven weight distribution that exceeded safe operating limits, so the washer stopped spinning to prevent mechanical damage. This is most often caused by washing a single heavy item like a bathrobe or jeans. The code does not indicate a component failure in most cases.

Turning the power off and back on will clear the E4 code from the display, but the error will return if the underlying load imbalance is not corrected first. You need to physically redistribute the laundry inside the drum before restarting. If the load is properly balanced and the error keeps coming back, inspect the machine's leveling and suspension components.

If the E4 error is caused only by load distribution habits, there is no repair cost involved. If worn suspension rods or shock absorbers are contributing to repeated errors, parts and labor for that repair typically range from around $100 to $250 depending on your location and service provider. Leveling adjustments involve no parts cost and can be done without a technician.

The washer automatically stops the spin cycle when E4 is triggered, so continuing to run it in that state is not an option without a reset. The safety shutoff is intentional, as running the drum at high speed with a severely unbalanced load can stress the bearings, suspension rods, and cabinet over time. Addressing the imbalance before restarting protects the machine from long-term wear.
