Samsung Washer Error Code TCD1

TCD1 indicates a temperature sensor fault related to the wash/dry heater circuit. The code is triggered when the main PCB detects an abnormal or absent signal from the heater temperature sensor. It can also appear due to a main PCB fault or freezing ambient temperatures in winter. The washer stops operation to prevent potential overheating damage.

It is not recommended to continue running the washer while TCD1 is active. The code exists to protect the appliance from overheating caused by an unmonitored heater temperature sensor. Running cycles with a faulty temperature sensor could risk damage to internal components or create an unsafe condition. Address the fault before resuming normal use.

A reset may temporarily clear the TCD1 code, but if the underlying fault is still present, the code will return when the washer attempts to run a cycle. Resetting is useful for confirming whether the fault was a temporary condition, such as a brief freeze or a momentarily loose connector, but it does not fix a failed sensor or damaged wiring. Persistent reappearance of TCD1 after a reset means the root cause needs to be diagnosed and repaired.

Some causes of TCD1 are accessible to a knowledgeable DIYer. Start by checking that the wash/dry heater temperature sensor connector is firmly seated and free of corrosion, as a loose connection is the most common cause. If you are comfortable using a multimeter to test sensor resistance and the connector looks fine, the sensor itself may need replacement. Main PCB diagnosis and replacement is generally better left to a qualified technician.

Repair costs depend on the root cause. If only the temperature sensor needs replacement, parts and labor typically range from around $75 to $200. If the main PCB is at fault, costs can range from $200 to $450 or more depending on the model and labor rates in your area. Getting a diagnosis before authorizing repair helps avoid unnecessary parts replacement.
