It is not recommended to continue running the washer with an active TCF error. Without a functioning temperature sensor, the PCB cannot accurately regulate the heater, which creates a risk of overheating the water or the heating element. The washer will typically pause or refuse to complete the cycle anyway as a safety measure.

A power reset, unplugging the machine for a few minutes and restarting it, may temporarily clear the TCF code, but the error will return if the underlying fault is still present. A reset is useful as a first step to confirm whether the code is intermittent or consistent. Consistent reappearance means the sensor, connector, or PCB needs to be properly diagnosed and repaired.

Some TCF errors can be resolved with basic checks. Start by unplugging the washer, locating the temperature sensor connector, and reseating it firmly to ensure a solid connection. If the machine is in a cold environment, move it to a warmer space and allow it to thaw before running it again. If these steps do not clear the code, the sensor likely needs to be tested with a multimeter and replaced if faulty, which is a moderately involved repair.

If the fix is a reseated connector, there is no parts cost involved. A replacement temperature sensor typically runs in the range of $15 to $60 depending on the model. If the main PCB is the cause, parts alone can range from $100 to $300 or more, and professional labor adds to that total. Getting the connector and sensor checked first keeps costs as low as possible.
