Samsung Washer Error Code UB1

UB1 is an unbalance error specific to waterproof items such as tarpaulins or waterproof flat covers being washed in the drum. These materials do not absorb water, so they shift unevenly during the spin cycle and create an imbalance the machine cannot correct on its own. The unit stops the cycle and displays UB1 to alert you that the load type is incompatible with normal spin operation. Removing the waterproof items and restarting the machine is the required fix.

Turning the machine off and waiting 2 to 3 minutes before turning it back on will clear the UB1 error code from the display. However, if the waterproof items are still in the drum when the next cycle runs, the error will return. The reset only clears the stored fault state; it does not resolve the underlying load imbalance.

In most cases, UB1 requires no parts or repair costs at all, since the error is caused by the type of items being washed rather than a mechanical failure. If the error appears repeatedly without waterproof items present, there may be an underlying balance sensor or suspension issue, and professional diagnosis could cost anywhere from $75 to $200 or more depending on what is found. Always rule out load type as the cause before assuming a component failure.

Open the door and remove the waterproof items causing the imbalance. Once the items are removed, press Start to restart the cycle, or turn the machine off and wait 2 to 3 minutes before powering it back on. If you need to wash waterproof items, check their care labels and consider using a lower spin speed setting if the machine allows it.

The machine stops the cycle automatically when UB1 is triggered, so it will not continue operating in an unsafe condition on its own. You should not attempt to force a high-speed spin with waterproof items still inside, as the resulting vibration can stress drum bearings and suspension components over time. Removing the offending items before restarting is the correct and safe approach.
