The F-12 code on a Whirlpool induction range signals an under-current condition at one of the induction cooktop coils. This is a Type 1 failure, meaning only the single affected burner is shut down. The Induction Power Control board detected that the coil circuit was not drawing the expected level of current. The fault is typically traced to a loose wiring connection or a problem with the coil itself.

The oven and any unaffected burners may continue to operate normally since the F-12 fault is isolated to a single burner. However, you should not attempt to use the affected burner until the fault is diagnosed and repaired. Continuing to operate the appliance without addressing the underlying wiring or component issue could cause further damage to the IPC board.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. If only a connector needs to be reseated, there may be no parts cost at all, though a service call fee from a technician would still apply, typically in the range of $75 to $150.
