F2-E5 means the control board detected an open circuit in the cancel key drive line. The board sends a signal through this line to monitor the cancel key on the keypad and receives no return signal, so it registers the fault. The issue is located somewhere in the circuit path between the control board and the cancel key on the membrane keypad.

In most cases, F2-E5 will prevent normal oven operation because the control board treats the open drive line as an unresolved fault and may disable the controls. Even if the oven partially operates, a non-functional cancel key is a safety concern since you need that key to terminate cooking cycles or cancel runaway heat conditions. Resolve this fault before relying on the oven.

Cutting power at the breaker or unplugging the oven for 60 seconds will clear the code from the display temporarily, but F2-E5 will return immediately if the underlying open circuit in the cancel key drive line has not been fixed. A reset is useful as a first step to confirm the fault is active and repeatable, but it does not repair a loose connector, damaged keypad, or broken harness.

Start by disconnecting power to the oven for 60 seconds, then remove the control panel and check that the ribbon cable connector between the keypad and control board is fully seated and undamaged. Reattach power and check if the code returns. If it does, the membrane keypad is the next part to test and replace, as a failed cancel key trace is the most frequent hardware cause of this code.

If the fix is simply reseating the keypad connector, there is no parts cost. A replacement membrane keypad typically runs between $30 and $80 depending on the model. A new electronic control board is the more expensive path, usually $100 to $250 for the part. Professional labor for diagnosis and repair generally adds $100 to $200, so a total repair cost of $150 to $400 is a realistic range if parts replacement is needed.
