E:16 means the dishwasher's flow sensor is detecting water entering the unit without the control board having activated the filling valve. This points to an unauthorized water flow event, most commonly caused by a water inlet valve that is stuck open or leaking past its seat. The control board triggers this code as a protective measure to flag unexpected water entry.

It is not recommended to continue using the dishwasher while E:16 is active. A filling valve stuck open can cause uncontrolled water entry, which risks overfilling, flooding, or water damage to surrounding cabinetry and flooring. Shut off the water supply to the dishwasher until the fault is diagnosed and repaired.

Repair costs depend on which component has failed. A replacement water inlet valve typically ranges from around 30 to 80 dollars for the part, with labor adding 80 to 150 dollars depending on your location and service provider. A flow sensor is generally less expensive. Control board replacement is the costliest scenario, often ranging from 150 to 400 dollars including parts and labor.

Start by checking the filling valve to see if water is entering the dishwasher while it is idle and unpowered. If the valve is leaking or stuck open, it will need to be replaced. Also check the electrical actuation circuit and wiring to the valve and flow sensor. If both components test correctly, the control board may require inspection or replacement.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code display, but it will not fix the underlying hardware fault.
