INV-11 means the refrigerator's inverter-controlled compressor is starting and then stopping before completing a proper cooling cycle. The inverter system detects an abnormal load or operating condition and shuts the compressor down as a protective measure. The first recommended step is to let the compressor rest for 5 minutes so refrigerant pressures can equalize before attempting a restart. If the error continues after that rest period, further diagnosis of the compressor, inverter board, and refrigerant system is needed.

A reset may temporarily clear the error code, but if the underlying cause has not been resolved, the INV-11 will return once the compressor attempts to run again. The 5-minute rest period is effectively a soft reset that addresses the most common cause, which is pressure imbalance. If the fault is related to a failing component such as the inverter board or compressor, resetting will not provide a lasting fix.

If the issue is simply pressure imbalance, there is no repair cost beyond a service call if a technician is involved. Condenser cleaning is a low-cost fix. If the inverter board needs replacement, parts and labor typically range from $200 to $500 depending on the model and local labor rates. Compressor replacement is the most expensive scenario, generally ranging from $400 to $900 or more including labor and refrigerant handling.

Start by letting the refrigerator sit with the compressor off for at least 5 minutes to allow refrigerant pressure to equalize, then see if the compressor runs normally on restart.
