Fisher & Paykel Washer Error Code 81-95

Error codes 81-95 signal a communication failure between the display board and the motor controller module. These two boards must continuously exchange data for the washer to function, and when that link breaks down, the machine stops and logs one of these codes. Fisher & Paykel also recommends checking fault code 106 alongside these errors for additional diagnostic detail.

A power reset may temporarily clear the code if the communication failure was caused by a transient electrical event, but the error will return if an underlying hardware problem exists. If the pump is shorted or the wiring harness is damaged, the fault will reappear as soon as the machine attempts to run. A reset alone is not a fix for a confirmed hardware fault.

Repair costs depend on which component is at fault. A replacement drain pump typically costs between $50 and $150 for the part, while a motor controller module or display board can range from $100 to $300 or more. Adding a technician's labor, total repair costs can range from $150 to $500 depending on the diagnosis. Getting a professional diagnostic assessment first helps avoid replacing parts unnecessarily.

Start by measuring the drain pump's resistance with a multimeter. If the reading is below 33 ohms, replace the pump. If the pump checks out, inspect the wiring harness between the display board and the motor controller module for loose connectors or damaged wires. If the harness is intact, one of the two control boards may need to be replaced, which typically requires a technician to diagnose.

It is not recommended to continue using the washer while these codes are active. A communication failure between the control boards means the machine cannot properly coordinate its functions, which could lead to incomplete cycles or uncontrolled operation. A shorted drain pump, one possible cause, also presents an electrical risk that should be addressed before running the machine again.
