The E:17 fault is specific to the water softener circuit and does not affect the core washing or draining functions of the dishwasher, so continuing to use it is generally not a safety hazard. However, without a working water softener, mineral scale will gradually accumulate on the heating element and internal surfaces, which can shorten the appliance's lifespan. Addressing the fault promptly is advisable.
