The i5D code means the dishwasher's drain pump brushless DC motor has exceeded the maximum allowed current draw of 0.550 amps. The control board detects this overload condition and stops operation to protect the motor and electronics. Common triggers include drain pump blockages, wiring faults, and a failing motor.

A reset may temporarily clear the i5D code, but if the underlying cause is not addressed, the fault will return as soon as the drain pump runs again. Resetting is useful for confirming whether the issue is intermittent, but it is not a fix for a clogged impeller, damaged wiring, or a failing motor.

Repair costs vary depending on the root cause. Clearing a drain pump blockage yourself costs nothing beyond your time. A replacement drain pump motor typically runs in the range of $40 to $120 for the part, with professional labor adding $80 to $200 depending on your area. A PCB replacement, if needed, can bring the total cost significantly higher.

Start by checking the drain pump wire harness and its connection to the PCB for damage or loose pins. If the wiring and impeller are clear and the error returns, the drain pump motor likely needs to be replaced.

It is not recommended to continue running the dishwasher while the i5D fault is active. The error exists to prevent the drain motor from overheating or sustaining damage from prolonged high-current operation.
