NTC failure

NTC failure — NTC closed circuit (shorted), wiring issue, or main board defective.

First step from the service manual

Check NTC for normal impedance at room-temp (should be 50K ohms at 25°C +/-5%). If invalid value detected, replace NTC and re-try. If found okay, check wiring (fastons on NTC harness and wiring/edge connector J4). If found okay, replace the electronic control board and re-try.

From Service Manual 889280, p.12:

1.Check NTC for normal impedance at room-temp (should be 50K ohms at 25°C +/-5%). If invalid value detected, replace NTC and re-try. If found okay, check wiring (fastons on NTC harness and wiring/edge connector J4). If found okay, replace the electronic control board and re-try.

2.Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at the sensor body. Expected: 10 kΩ to 12 kΩ at 77°F (25°C).

3.Check the sensor harness for opens and shorts. Back-probe the sensor pins at the control board connector; a reading outside 5 kΩ to 50 kΩ indicates a failed sensor.
