A power reset will not permanently clear E97 because the error is caused by a hardware or configuration fault, not a temporary software glitch. The code will return as soon as the dryer attempts to read the cycle selection again. The underlying component, either the cycle selector switch or the control board, must be replaced to resolve the error.

Repair costs vary depending on which component needs replacement. A rotary cycle selector switch is generally an inexpensive part, typically in the range of $15 to $50 for the part alone. An Electronic Control Board or main control board is more costly, often ranging from $80 to $200 or more for the part.
