The 7E code on a Samsung dishwasher signals a vane motor or vane sensor error. Specifically, the control board detected that the vane either failed to return to its reset position within the allowed time, or it completed a position cycle in 3 seconds or less. The code is only set after the dishwasher has retried the operation three times without success.

A reset may temporarily clear the 7E code, but it will return if the underlying problem is not resolved. The control board only displays the code after three failed retry attempts, so the fault condition is already confirmed before you see the error. A reset alone is not a repair.

Repair costs depend on the failed component. If only a connector needs reseating, the cost may be limited to a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150. Replacing a vane motor or sensor can add $50 to $200 or more in parts, plus labor. A control board replacement is the most expensive scenario and can push total costs higher.

Some steps are DIY-friendly, such as checking that the vane motor and sensor connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion. However, testing motor continuity, evaluating sensor output, or replacing internal components typically requires disassembly and some electrical testing experience. If you are not comfortable working inside the dishwasher, a qualified technician is recommended.

Running the dishwasher with an active 7E error is not recommended. The vane system is responsible for directing water flow during the wash cycle, and if it is not functioning correctly, cleaning performance will be significantly reduced. Continuing to run the unit without addressing the fault could also strain other components.
