Samsung Heat Pump Error Code E154

E154 is a compressor lockout code that appears when the outdoor temperature sensor reads above the permitted range for heat mode operation. Heat mode is blocked when outdoor temperature exceeds 30°C, and heat mode with refrigerant charging is blocked when outdoor temperature exceeds 15°C. The system triggers this code to protect the refrigerant circuit from operating outside its safe envelope.

E154 is a protective lockout, meaning the system has already prevented the compressor from starting. The unit is not running in a damaged state. You can leave the system powered, but it will not provide heating until the condition clears. There is no immediate safety risk to the home from this code.

If the only required fix is replacing the outdoor inlet air temperature sensor, parts and labor typically range from around 100 to 300 dollars depending on the model and local labor rates. If the issue is wiring or connector damage, costs may be at the lower end of that range. If actual ambient conditions are causing the code and no component has failed, there is no repair cost involved.

If the error appears during genuinely hot outdoor conditions, no repair is needed and the system should resume normal operation when temperatures drop. If the error appears in cool weather, the outdoor inlet air temperature sensor or its wiring may need inspection, which requires accessing the outdoor unit and using diagnostic tools such as view mode or S-net to read live sensor data. Most homeowners will need a qualified technician for that level of diagnosis.

A power reset may temporarily clear the code, but E154 will return if the outdoor temperature sensor is still reading above the threshold, whether due to actual high temperatures or a faulty sensor. Resetting without addressing the root cause is not a lasting solution. If the error clears and stays gone after a reset in cool conditions, monitor the unit and check sensor readings if it recurs.
