Samsung Heat Pump Error Code E262

E262 indicates that the temperature readings from the digital compressor discharge sensor and the fixed compressor 1 discharge sensor differ by more than 40°C. This condition is called a breakaway fault and usually means one sensor has come loose from the discharge pipe. The system flags this to prevent the compressor from running without accurate discharge temperature monitoring.

Operating the heat pump while E262 is active is not recommended. Without accurate discharge temperature data, the system cannot protect the compressor from overheating conditions. Continued operation risks compressor damage, which is a significantly more expensive repair than addressing the sensor issue.

A power reset may temporarily clear the E262 fault code, but if the underlying cause, such as a separated sensor, is not corrected, the error will return as soon as the system restarts and the control board re-evaluates the sensor readings. The sensor must be physically inspected, reseated, and secured before a reset will result in normal operation.

If the sensor has simply vibrated loose from its mounting position, a knowledgeable DIYer can locate the separated sensor on the discharge line and reseat it in its clamp. However, accessing the compressor compartment on a heat pump requires removing panels and working near refrigerant lines, so comfort with appliance disassembly is important. If the wiring, connector, or sensor itself is damaged, a technician with the proper tools and parts should handle the repair.

If the repair is simply reseating a loose sensor, labor costs are typically in the range of $75 to $150 for a service visit. If a sensor needs replacement, parts and labor combined generally range from $100 to $300 depending on the specific sensor and local labor rates.
