The 4E error code indicates a water supply error: the washer is not receiving water correctly. Common causes include a clogged inlet filter screen, a faulty water supply valve with resistance outside the 0.9 to 1.1 kilohm range, a disconnected valve terminal, swapped water connectors, or a kinked transparent hose near the detergent drawer. The machine will not run a cycle until the water supply issue is resolved.

A reset, typically performed by unplugging the machine for one to two minutes, may temporarily clear the display but the 4E code will return if the underlying cause has not been addressed. The code is triggered by an active condition the machine detects during its fill sequence, so the physical or electrical issue causing restricted water supply must be corrected for the error to stay cleared.

If the fix is simply cleaning a clogged inlet filter screen or reseating a connector, the repair costs nothing beyond your time. If the water supply valve itself has failed and needs replacement, parts typically run in the range of $30 to $80 depending on the model, with professional labor adding $100 to $200 on top of that. A kinked or torn transparent hose is an inexpensive parts repair, usually under $20 for the hose alone.

Start by confirming the household water supply valves behind the washer are fully open. Then disconnect the supply hoses from the back of the machine and check the mesh filter screens for sediment or blockage, rinsing them if needed. Inspect the transparent hose from the drain to the detergent drawer for kinks or tears, and check that all wiring connectors at the water supply valve are fully seated. If these steps do not resolve the issue, test the valve solenoid resistance: a reading outside 0.9 to 1.1 kilohms means the valve needs replacement.

The washer will not complete a cycle while displaying the 4E code because it cannot fill properly, so there is no risk of a wash running without water. You should not attempt to force the machine to run. Address the underlying supply issue before resuming normal use to avoid stressing the pump and other components.
