The SLOW_FLASH code means the control board has detected a problem in the thermistor circuit, either a disconnected plug or a thermistor that has failed open. The thermistor is the temperature sensor the board uses to manage the freeze and harvest cycles. Without a valid signal from that sensor, the unit cannot operate safely and will stop making ice.

A reset may temporarily clear the fault display, but the SLOW_FLASH code will return immediately if the underlying thermistor problem has not been corrected. The control board checks the thermistor circuit continuously, so the error will reappear as soon as the board completes its self-check after restart. Repair the sensor or wiring first, then reset the unit.

If the fix is simply reseating a loose connector, there is no parts cost involved. A replacement thermistor typically runs in the range of $15 to $50 depending on the specific model. If the control board itself turns out to be faulty, board replacement costs are generally in the $100 to $300 range for parts alone, with additional labor costs if a technician is performing the repair.

Start by locating the thermistor connector on the control board and confirming it is fully seated. If the plug is secure, test the thermistor with a multimeter in resistance mode. A thermistor reading infinite resistance at room temperature has failed open and needs to be replaced. Also inspect the wiring between the thermistor and the board for any breaks or corrosion.

Continuing to run the unit with an active thermistor fault is not recommended. The control board relies on the thermistor to prevent freeze cycle problems and to manage harvest timing correctly. Operating without valid temperature feedback could lead to incomplete ice harvesting, component stress, or ice quality issues. Address the fault before resuming normal use.
