Amana Microwave Error Code E23

The E23 code means the microwave's preheat cycle in convection or grill mode did not reach the preset target temperature within 30 minutes. When this happens, the control board cancels the preheat cycle and displays E23. The fault points to a problem with the convection heater, grill heater, associated wiring, or the PCB. Normal operation will not resume until the root cause is diagnosed and corrected.

Resetting the microwave by unplugging it for a minute may temporarily clear the E23 display, but the error will return as soon as another preheat cycle is attempted if the underlying problem has not been fixed. A reset does not repair a failed heating element, damaged wiring, or a faulty PCB. Clearing the code without fixing the cause only delays the repair.

Repair costs vary depending on the failed component. Replacing a heating element typically costs between $50 and $150 in parts, plus labor if a technician is involved. A replacement PCB can range from $80 to $200 or more depending on the model. If the issue is only a loose connection or damaged wiring, the repair may cost significantly less. Standard microwave cooking functions may still operate when E23 is present, since the fault is specific to the convection or grill heating system. However, convection and grill cooking modes will not work correctly and should not be relied on until the fault is resolved.
