The E82 error code on an Electrolux dryer indicates a communication failure between the main control electronics board and the display/control electronics board. These two boards work in constant communication, exchanging operational data such as cycle selections, sensor readings, and timing signals. When that communication link breaks down or becomes corrupted, the main board detects the loss of expected data and triggers the E82 fault to alert the technician that the control system is not functioning as an integrated unit.

The most common root cause of this fault is a wiring issue in the harness that connects the two boards. Loose connectors, broken wires, or corroded terminals can interrupt the data signal and produce intermittent or persistent E82 faults. Physical inspection of the wiring harness, including checking each connector for proper seating and inspecting individual wires for damage from heat or pinching, is the correct starting point before condemning any electronic component.

If the wiring harness and connectors check out as intact and secure, the fault likely resides in one of the two boards themselves. Either the main electronics board or the display/control board may have failed internally, losing the ability to send or receive communication signals. In some cases a power surge or moisture intrusion can damage board-level components. Determining which board has failed typically requires substitution testing or advanced board-level diagnostics.
