The two boards are unable to exchange data signals properly, which prevents the dryer from processing commands. The cause is typically a wiring or connector issue, though one of the boards themselves may have failed.

A reset may temporarily clear the E91 code if the fault was caused by a transient signal disruption, but it will return if an underlying wiring or board issue is present. To prevent the code from recurring, the root cause, whether a loose connector, damaged harness, or faulty board, needs to be identified and corrected.

If the fix is simply reseating a connector or addressing a minor wiring issue, the repair cost may be limited to a service call fee, typically in the range of $75 to $150. If a board replacement is needed, parts and labor combined can range from $150 to $400 or more depending on which board is at fault and local labor rates. Getting a diagnostic inspection before committing to parts replacement is advisable.
