The dryer will not operate while the door is unlatched, which is a built-in safety feature. Error Code 6 itself indicates the door has not closed correctly, so the appliance is behaving safely by refusing to run. Simply clear the obstruction to restore normal operation. There is no risk associated with this warning beyond the dryer being temporarily inoperable.

In most cases there is no cost at all, since the error is caused by trapped clothing or an overloaded drum rather than a faulty part. If the door latch or striker is found to be damaged and requires replacement, repair costs typically range from a modest parts-and-labor fee up to a higher amount depending on local labor rates and part availability. Always rule out a simple obstruction first before assuming a part needs to be replaced.

Open the dryer door and inspect the entire perimeter of the door opening for any fabric or items caught between the door and the drum. If the drum is packed tightly, remove some items to reduce the load. Once the obstruction is cleared, close the door firmly until the latch engages, and the warning should clear automatically.

Resetting the dryer without addressing the physical obstruction will not clear this error, because the warning is triggered by the door failing to latch rather than by a control board fault. The code will only clear once the door is able to close and engage the latch properly. Focus on removing any trapped fabric or reducing the load before attempting to restart.
