GE Washer Error Code E26

E26 indicates a LIN communication failure between the Machine Control Board and the User Interface Control Board. These two boards must exchange data continuously for the washer to operate, and when that communication breaks down, the washer triggers E26 and stops. The fault is most often caused by a wiring or connector issue between the two boards.

A reset may temporarily clear the E26 code, but if an underlying wiring or board fault exists, the error will return. To permanently clear E26, the root cause of the communication failure must be identified and corrected. Resetting is useful as a first step to confirm whether the fault is intermittent or consistent.

If the fix involves reseating a connector or repairing a wiring harness, costs are minimal, typically ranging from nothing to around $20 to $60 for a replacement harness. If a control board needs replacement, parts and labor costs can range from $150 to $400 or more depending on which board is faulty and local labor rates.

Some causes of E26 can be addressed without professional help. Start by checking that all connectors between the Machine Control Board and the User Interface Board are fully seated and free of corrosion. If the wiring is intact and connections are secure but the error persists, control board replacement is likely needed and may require a technician.

The washer will typically not complete a cycle when E26 is active, as it cannot reliably coordinate the controls needed for safe operation. It is best to avoid forcing the machine to run until the fault is resolved. Continued attempts to operate with a control communication failure could mask other developing issues.
