LG Washer Error Code AE5

AE5 indicates a communication error between the LCD Module (display panel) and the main PBA (main control board). The washer's system detects that expected signals between these two components are not being transmitted or received. The error is most often caused by a loose, incorrectly seated, or poorly soldered connector rather than a fully failed board.

You should not attempt to run the washer while the AE5 error is active. The communication breakdown between the display panel and control board means the machine cannot reliably process commands or respond to user input. Continuing to operate it in this state could lead to unpredictable behavior or further component damage.

If the fix is simply reseating a connector, there is no parts cost and only a service call fee if a technician performs the work, typically in the range of $75 to $150. If the LCD Module needs replacement, parts and labor combined generally fall in the $150 to $300 range. Replacing the main PBA is the most expensive scenario, often costing between $200 and $450 depending on the model and labor rates in your area.

Start by unplugging the washer and locating the connector wiring between the LCD Module and the main PBA. Check that all connectors are fully seated and free of corrosion or bent pins. If connections look secure, inspect the solder joints on both boards for cracks or cold joints. If physical checks do not resolve the issue, replacing the LCD Module or the main PBA may be necessary.

A power reset by unplugging the washer for a few minutes may temporarily clear the error if the cause is an intermittent signal issue. However, if the underlying connector or solder problem is not corrected, the AE5 code will return once the washer resumes operation. A reset alone is not a fix for this error.
